Boot Cowl

After installing the engine, we temporarily fit the boot cowl.  The rear of the boot cowl will sit against the windshield and the front will have the top engine cowl resting on it.

Turtle Deck

We also fit the turtledeck in place and cut the holes for the windows.  Tinted lexan will be installed into the holes.  The antenna will also be mounted on the turtledeck.

Fitting the Cowling

The top and bottom engine cowl have to be trimmed along the scribe line near the rear in order to be straight.  Since we are installing the AeroVee, it is a little bit more tricky to trim.  The cowling id designed for the Rotax so trimming it for another engine requires little corrections and refitting.

Trimming the Cowling

Also, the AeroVee is wider than a Rotax so some modifications must be done to the sides of the cowl.  We thought about cutting out the holes and then using fiberglass to make to make bumps for the valve covers but after talking to another builder using the same engine, we decided to just leave the covers stick out like the old Piper Cubs.
