The History of The Pietenpol

The Pietenpol was designed by Bernard Pietenpol in the late 1920's.  Pietenpol lived in Cherry Grove, MN and was a mechanic.  He became fascinated with flying at a young age and decided to build an airplane that was cheap and efficient.  What he came up with is a design that stood the test of time.

In order to keep the cost down, Mr. Pietenpol used materials that could be found at the local hardware store.  In addition he used the engine that was most readily available at the time, a Ford Model A.  When he was finished, Bernie Pietenpol had produced a plane that is recognized as the pioneer of the homebuilt age, the Pietenpol Air Camper.  Today, this airplane lives on as builders continue to construct these aircraft to fly "low & slow."
