 Leaving Rio Creek

Brian Dauck, Justin Dauck, and Don Walter getting ready to leave for Caldwell, ID.

The story of our Escapade began on Sunday, February 22, 2004.  We left Rio Creek at about 2:00 p.m. for Caldwell, ID.

Sunrise in Laramie, Wyoming.

We drove straight through and arrived at about 6:00 MT, meaning we were on the road for 29 hours.  The next morning we went to the Just Aircraft shop and began finalizing the features that we wanted.

 Welding the fuselage

Troy doing some welding and fitting of our hand brakes on the fuselage.  When they are done we will have differential braking by two levers between the seats and forward of the flap handle.

After the brackets were welded into place for the hand brakes, the fuselage was brought next door to fit the wings.  This is an extra feature that we were happy we got and would suggest to other builders, especially first timers like us.

 Wings on the jig

Our wings while they were still on the jig.

Fitting the wings consists of drilling the holes where wings bolt on to the fuselage.  It also involves cutting the grooves which will allow the wings  to fold.  Another great feature of the Escapade is wings that can be folded or unfolded in about 2 minutes.
