GPS Search/Color Tour
Presented By
2nd Annual
On October 21, 2006, the Rio Creek Aviation Foundation (RCAF) held their second annual GPS Search and Chili Feed. The goal of the day was to get pilots more acquainted with their GPS units and specifically, how to enter coordinates and find that point.
Each team was given a sheet of paper with 5 sets of coordinates on it. They had to punch them into their GPS and then fly to those points. Then, they wrote down what each point was (Jorgensen-Stoller Airport or a large white barn for example). Upon returning to RCA, all the pilots were treated to some of Don J's chili.
Mike Mahlik flew his Cessna 150 in for the day' sevents.
Mike rode along with Clete Cisler in his Piper Clipper for the GPS search.
Hans Shin pilots a Cessna 172. Todd Lohenry and his boys rounded out the search team.
Don Walter pilots and Earl Martin navigates as they participated in the GPS Search.
Dick Martin arrives at RCA in his Meyers.
The response from everyone involved was positive and we look forward to next year's event. Based on pilot feedback, we plan on widening the points out a little further.
The Rio Creek Aviation Foundation was formed in 2004 with the purpose of fostering a love of flying for young and old alike in Northeast Wisconsin. Based at the Rio Creek International Airport, the heart of aviation in Kewaunee County, the foundation promotes aviation through educational programs, fly-ins, Young Eagles days and other aviation-oriented activities.
